The Bharatiya Janata Party has told the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to 'wait and watch' it return to its Hindutva ideology in the coming days, Sangh general secretary Mohan Bhagwat said in Haridwar on Saturday.

"The Sangh does not direct any one. The reforms have to come from within. The BJP says we will return to Hindutva. Let us see how they fulfill it," he said.

But the BJP has not given a time frame for its return to Hindutva.

Bhagwat was addressing a press conference towards the end of the two-day RSS national executive, attended among others by BJP president L K Advani.

Referring to the 'boycott' by Vishwa Hindu Parishad leaders Ashok Singhal and Pravin Togadia on the first day, Bhagwat said, "There are differences but no conflict and they will be sorted out."

The VHP leaders accuse the BJP of ignoring Hindutva. To a question whether the VHP's boycott amounted to indiscipline, Bhagwat said, "They (VHP leaders) had taken permission not to attend the meeting."

During the meeting, representatives of various parivar organisations asked the BJP to restore the party's ideology and character.

"We expect them to take a clear stand on Hindutva. It is for them to decide now," Bhagwat said citing the Ram Temple and cow protection when asked to explain the Hindutva-related issues.

Bhagwat said Ram Temple can be built only by building the will of the people and 'we expect the BJP to play this role'.

He was non-committal on whether the RSS would consider the VHP's demand for floating a Hindu political alliance on the lines of the United Progressive Alliance and National Democratic Alliance.
