BJP objects to review of NCERT books

June 24, 2004 13:20 IST

Expressing serious concern over the United Progressive Alliance government's attempts to rewrite NCERT books, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday demanded an immediate halt to the "nefarious" exercise and directed its workers to undertake awareness programmes to "expose the Congress-Communist design to destroy the Indian education system."

"The national executive views with concern attempts of UPA to tamper with the contents of text books published by the NCERT in the name of detoxification. The BJP considers this as an assault on the education system and the formation of a committee to review NCERT books is nothing but an eyewash," the party said in a resolution adopted on the concluding day of its three-day national executive meeting in Mumbai.
