Dharam petition with home ministry
June 08, 2004 23:01 IST
The presidential secretariat has asked the Union home ministry to take appropriate action regarding a petition filed about the marriage of actress and Rajya Sabha member Hema Malini to actor and Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Bikaner Dharmendra.
Local lawyer Shailendra Dwiwedi, who had filed the complaint, said in a release that while Dharmendra, has left the name of his wife blank in his nomination papers for election, Hema Malini had put his name down as her husband when she filed nomination papers for the Rajya Sabha. Incorrect filing of nomination papers renders them invalid.
The communication Dwivedi received from the President's Secretariat said the complaint has been "forwarded to the secretary to the Government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi, for appropriate action."
A fast track court had on Monday dismissed a petition by the advocate on behalf of Congress leaders K K Mishra and Akhtar Baig on the issue.
The two leaders had alleged that Dharmendra has not divorced his first wife as per the Hindu Marriage Act and that his his nomination should be cancelled as he had not given correct information about his second marriage to Hema Malini.
