Bihar floods death toll 383

It is official now. The death toll in the current spell of floods, which have affected over 25 million people in north Bihar, has been put at 383.

According to the state Disaster Management Department, the toll is the highest in recent years. Most of the deaths were reported from the three worst affected districts of Darbhanga, Sitamarhi and Samastipur.

Among the 19 affected districts, Samastipur alone has reported 91 deaths, followed by 74 in Darbhanga, 68 in Sitamarhi, 36 in Madhubani, 31 in Muzaffarpur and 13 in Bhagalpur.

The good news was given by sources in the Central Water Commission who said that flood waters have begun receding in all major rivers.

Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Saturday contributed one month's salary amounting to about Rs 25,000 to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund and also appealed to all ministers, MLAs and MLCs to do the same.
