Foster rape-murder: Kohli in hospital
July 23, 2004 15:24 IST
Maninder Pal Singh Kohli, in jail after his arrest in Kalimpong last week in connection with the rape and murder of British teenager Hannah Foster, was admitted to a local hospital after he complained of abdominal pain, official sources said on Friday.
He was shifted to the hospital around 8.30 pm yesterday.
All relevant tests were made but no serious health problem was detected, the sources said. He would be sent back to jail sometime later today, they added.
Meanwhile, no CBI team has reached Kalimpong to take charge of Kohli, the prime suspect in the murder case. The sub-divisional judicial magistrate of Kalimpong, Hargobind Singh had given the order last week.
Kohli, arrested from Panighata on the Indo-Nepal border on July 15 for the rape and murder of Hannah Foster at Southampton in the UK on March 14 last year, has been remanded to judicial custody till July 29.
He had been evading the police after escaping from Southampton after the killing by first fleeing to Chandigarh and then to Kalimpong.
The arrest followed her parents' public appeal to provide leads on Kohli's whereabouts and announcement of a Rs 45 lakh award. His photographs were flashed on television, which alerted his neighbours in Kalimpong leading to the arrest.
