Vajpayee has adopted Cong line on Pak: Sonia
January 20, 2004 16:08 IST
Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday accused Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee of frequently changing his stand on Pakistan. "At one time, Vajpayee was talking about 'aar paar ki ladayi' (fight to the finish)...at another point he said talks with Pakistan would not be possible till cross-border terrorism was stopped," Gandhi said addressing a well-attended rally at the Parade Ground in Jammu.
"But today, the prime minister has adopted the line which was propagated by the Congress," Gandhi said.
She hoped that the current Indo-Pak peace process would succeed and said her party favoured a dialogue with "all groups and parties in Jammu and Kashmir."
The Congress chief, who is on a two-day visit to Jammu, said the Vajpayee government's wrong policies have compounded the problems of the people in the country.
"The number of unemployed youth in the country is increasing, prices are rising and farmers are also in a bad shape...this is because of the wrong policies of the central government.
"The government is issuing advertisements in newspapers claiming that its performance has improved, which is far from the reality," she said.
