Infiltration down because of climate: Army
January 14, 2004 21:15 IST
Indian Army chief General N C Vij on Wednesday said infiltration along the Line of Control has gone down mainly because of the climate.
He expressed the hope that peace moves between India and Pakistan would be successful. "Nobody desires peace more than the army," he said.
The army chief also appreciated the recent offensive against the northeastern insurgents by the Bhutanese army saying those outfits had been so 'badly mauled', that they might not be able to rise again.
Describing the offensive as 'highly successful', Vij said that most of the operational bases of ULFA, NDFB and KLO had been destroyed.
The army, he said, was prepared to face any situation and climate, political or otherwise, did not influence its preparedness.
