The Lok Sabha elections are unlikely to be held before the middle of April owing to technical reasons, Election Commission sources said on Monday night.

The notifications for the phased polls could be issued only after revision of electoral rolls and Uttar Pradesh would be the last state where this exercise would be completed on March 23, the sources said.

Thereafter, a mandatory 21 days would be required for the poll process, including a fortnight of campaigning.

Presuming that the Commission issued the poll notification immediately after the completion of the revision process in UP on March 23, polling could take place around April 15.

Polling would be conducted in a phased manner to allow for proper deployment of security forces.

The Commission last week reviewed the poll preparedness for a general election with the Chief Electoral Officers of all states and Union Territories.

Meanwhile, Delhi's Chief Electoral Officer said special campaigns would be organised on January 24-25 for inclusion and deletion of names. The final electoral rolls for the national capital would be ready on February 28.
