Sena not to ally with NCP

January 07, 2004 23:13 IST

The Shiv Sena on Wednesday night decided against allying with the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party for the forthcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections in Maharashtra.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of Sena leaders at party chief Bal Thackeray's residence in Mumbai.

"We have decided not to ally with NCP," Leader of the Opposition in the assembly, Narayan Rane, said after the meeting.

Rane refused to take any other question saying the party would issue a detailed press note in this connection.
