MBBS at Armed Forces Medical College, Pune The Armed Forces Medical College, Pune invites applications for admission to its MBBS course commencing from July 2004.
Number of seats: 130 candidates (including a maximum of 25 girls) will be selected.
All candidates admitted to AFMC, Pune have compulsory liability to serve as commissioned officers in the Armed Forces Medical Services on graduation. The type of commission will depend upon the vacancies available and merit-cum-option at the final MBBS examination.
The liability of the SSC officers passing out of AFMC to serve the Armed Forces Medical Services would be seven years. All candidates admitted to the college are required to execute a bond to this effect for an amount of Rs 1,500,000 at the time of joining the college. Students removed from service liability due to any reason will have to pay the bond money as per conditions laid down by the government of India.
Reservations: 10 seats are reserved for SC/ST candidates who also have the above mentioned service liability and have to fulfill the requirements of medical fitness, age, education and qualifying the entrance examination.
Special Concessions: The government will provide free accommodation and rations, second-class railway fare from college to home and back during vacations, a book subsidy of Rs 8,000 during the entire training period. Uniform allowance of Rs 2,500 per student during the first year and Rs 500 per year as maintenance allowance in subsequent years and any other allowances as applicable.
Eligibility: All candidates should be medically fit as per laid down standards. Only unmarried candidates are eligible. Marriage during the course is not permitted. The college is fully residential both for boys and girls.
Educational Qualification: Candidates must have passed the XII standard/pre-professional/premedical examination or equivalent examination of statutory Indian University/Board or any other recognized Board/University as a regular student in all the subjects opted for in first attempt with English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology securing not less than 60% marks in aggregate in the three science subjects taken together, not less than 50% marks in each of the science subjects and not less than 50% marks in English. They must have also passed an examination in Mathematics at least of the matriculation standard.
BSc graduates with not less than two of the subjects Physics, Chemistry, Biology (Botany or Zoology) having passed the XII standard/pre professional (Med) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English and obtained marks as stated above are also eligible to apply.
Note:
a. Candidates appearing for the qualifying examination (10+2 or equivalent) up to May 1, 2004 may also appear for the test provisionally.
b. The following categories of students are not eligible to apply:
i. Candidates who have passed in Domestic Science, Domestic Arithmetic, Lower Mathematics separately or in combination with other subjects like General Science, Social Studies in High School/Higher Secondary (Multi Purpose) or equivalent examination.
ii. Candidates who have passed only Pre-University/Pre-Degree (one year course) or Pre-Professional in Agriculture/Veterinary/Dental Examination
iii. Candidates who have passed the Pre-Professional or equivalent qualifying examination as private candidates.
Age Limit:
For 10+2 pass candidates: Not less than 17 years but below 22 years as on December 31, 2004, that is, candidates born not earlier than January 1, 1983 and not later than December 31, 1987.
For BSc graduates: Below 24 years as on December 31, 2004, that is, candidates born not earlier than January 1, 1981.
Method of Selection: Candidates will be required to appear for the competitive written test of Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Intelligence, Reasoning and English language comprehension on May 2, 2004 to be held at Agra, Ahmedabad, Ahmednagar, Allahabad, Ambala, Aurangabad, Bagdogra, Bangalore, Bareilly, Bathinda, Belgaum, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Chilka, Cochin, Danapore, Dehradun, Delhi, Devlali, Dharamshala, Gaya, Golconda, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Jabalpur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Meerut, Mhow, Mumbai, Pathankot, Port-Blair, Pune, Ramgarh, Ranchi, Secunderabad, Shillong, Tezpur, Vadodara, Varanasi and Vasco-Da-Gama (Goa). Selected candidates will be called for an interview at Pune in June 2004.
No TA/DA would be admissible to the candidates either for written test, interview or at the time of reporting for admission.

Prospectus and forms can also be obtained by post by sending a request to the Officer-in-Charge (Admission Cell), Armed Forces Medical College, Pune 411040 on payment of Rs 155 per copy by Bank Draft on any nationalized bank payable at Pune in favour of Commandant, AFMC, Pune, along with full postal address of the candidates on two separate slips of paper (9 cms × 5 cms). The DD must bear the code number of the issuing bank. The candidate must write his/her address and name on the back of the DD.
The request must contain the candidates' particulars and address and must be accompanied by a self-addressed envelope of 11 cms × 13 cms with postage stamp worth Rs 55.
Bank drafts on any other banks, money orders, cash or postal orders will not be accepted.
Combined demand draft for more than one application will not be accepted.
Completed application forms must be sent to the Officer-in-Charge (Admission cell), Armed Forces Medical College, Pune by 1600 hours, February 17, 2004.
