Kalam to return to teaching after completing term
January 06, 2004 00:34 IST
President A P J Abdul Kalam on Monday said he would return to teaching once he completes his term in Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2007.
"I was a teacher before I became the President. The day I finish my term in 2007, I will go back to my teaching," he said replying to a query whether he identified himself as a scientist or President while interacting with students drawn from across the country in Chandigarh.
"I came to the President's house with a vision that by 2020 India will be a developed, peaceful and prosperous nation. I believe in 'Vision 2020' when India would be a better place to live in with development all around and now I am marketing this vision," the President said.
On being asked about his major failure in life, Kalam said it was the attempt to put a satellite in orbit in 1979. "One must learn how to handle failure and success in life. Have courage to face failure."
Leadership is a fantastic quality. Successful leaders can never be defeated by problems. They become master of the situation and defeat the problems, he said.
