The Central Bureau of Investigation on Monday categorically denied any involvement in the alleged suicide committed by two persons, who it had questioned in connection with the murder of NHAI engineer Satyendra Dubey at Gaya in Bihar.

Sheonath Kumar Sah and Mukendra Paswan, who were quizzed for several hours in Delhi during the past few days, fell unconscious after consuming pesticide at their native village Katari under Chandauti police station in Gaya district.

They were later admitted to the A N Medical College Hospital where they died.

The CBI had served notices on the duo on January 25 asking them to appear before the agency on January 31 for questioning. Contact was established on January 27.

"The alleged suicide had taken place 25 hours after they were released on January 31 at their residence. The agency should not be blamed for it," a CBI spokesman said in Delhi.

"We, in CBI, do not resort to any torture and mainly confine our investigations on thorough questioning. The postmortem report would substantiate the agency's claim," the spokesman said adding the duo was summoned and thoroughly questioned under section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows the agency to summon anyone whom it suspected to be involved in a crime.
