The mother of K Venkatesh, who died in Hyderabad on Friday morning after a futile wait for the court to accept his plea for euthanasia so that he could donate his organs, vowed to keep up the fight for a change in the Human Organ Transplant Act.

Sujatha also intends to fulfill her son's other wish -- that she perform his last rites, even if it means going against tradition.

Vowing to carry on the legal battle for a change in the law to enable persons who are not brain dead to donate organs, Sujatha told a private news channel, "Maybe not this year, but in two years or three years or four years, the Act (change in law) is coming."

Twenty-five-year-old Venkatesh, who had been suffering from degenerative muscular dystrophy and was on life support system for some time, died at around 5am at Global Hospital. His mother and sister were by his side.

Sujatha had appealed to the Andhra Pradesh high court seeking euthanasia to allow her son to donate his organs. The court had earlier rejected her appeal but on Thursday ordered setting up of a committee to reconsider the matter.
