Kedarnath route reopened; fresh landslides in Uttaranchal
August 24, 2004 13:43 IST
The famous shrines of Gangotri, Badrinath and Yamunotri in Uttaranchal remained cut-off from the rest of the country for the second day on Tuesday following fresh landslides.
The route to Kedarnath was, however, reopened after the clearance of debris, official sources in Dehra Dun said.
Nearly 500 pilgrims are still stranded at Gangotri in Uttarkashi district as fresh landslides triggered by heavy rains have blocked the road at Dabrani, they said.
The route to Badrinath shrine in Chamoli district and Yamunotri temple in Uttarkashi district also remains shut due to fresh landslides at several places.
Fresh landslides have occurred at Lambagad, Baldora and Patalganga on the way to Badrinath.
Landslides at Hanumanchatti have blocked the road to Yamunotri temple.
Braving incessant rain, Border Road Organisation and Public Works Department personnel are working round-the-clock to clear the debris.
The administration has made all arrangements to take care of the stranded pilgrims at Gangotri. A medical team has also been sent to Dabrani, they said.
