With no or little rainfall in Mumbai since Thursday night, life in the metropolis on Friday began limping back to normalcy.

Road traffic was as smooth as it could be after days of heavy rains, and local trains were running on time.

Most of the long-distance trains too began leaving and arriving in Mumbai, though it would be some time before complete normalcy is restored.

"Except for the Lokmanya Tilak Terminus-Manmad Express, which was cancelled, most of the [long-distance] trains began plying today," a Central Railways source said.

He said suburban trains on both Western and Central lines were running on time.

All major national highways, which were closed following landslides, have also been cleared.

The Mumbai-Nashik highway is, however, only partially open, and so is the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, traffic control sources said.

There are no fresh reports of any landslides.
 
The weather bureau has predicted moderate rain in the city and adjoining areas in the next 24 hours.
