August 06, 2004 17:27 IST
The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the trial in cases pertaining to the massacre of 110 people in Naroda Gam and Naroda Patiya during the post-Godhra riots in Gujarat.
Hearing a petition that sought the transfer of these outside the state, a bench comprising Justice Ruma Pal, Justice S B Sinha and Justice S H Kapadia, while staying the trial, issued notice to the Gujarat government on the petition filed by an NGO - Citizens for Justice and Peace.
Appearing for the petitioner, senior advocate Ram Jethmalani alleged that the Gujarat police was hand-in-glove with the accused, which was apparent the manner in which the FIRs had been registered.
