Central team in Bihar to assess damage

A central team arrived in Patna on Tuesday to assess the damage caused by floods and drought in Bihar.
It met state government officials and was likely to call on Chief Minister Rabri Devi on Wednesday.

Bihar will demand a sum of Rs 8,000 crore from the Centre in lieu of the damages, sources told rediff.com.
Last week Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced during his visit to flood-affected districts that a central team would assess the loss and assistance would be provided on that basis.
The state disaster management department said that 19 districts in north Bihar were affected by floods and 18 districts of central and east Bihar were reeling under drought.
