Ministers against whom charges will be framed in the Babri Masjid case need not resign, Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu said in New Delhi on Friday.

The case is political motivated and does not have involve moral turpitude, Naidu said.

His comments came after the special court in Rae Bareilly ruled that charges would be framed against seven people, including Union Human Resources Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi, for their involvement in the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

The charge sheet against Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani was quashed.

"The BJP is of the firm opinion that senior party leaders Advani, Joshi and others appealed to the people assembled on December 6, 1992, in Ayodhya not to demolish the disputed structure."

"On account of the false case filed against them by the CBI in 1993, charges were framed. But the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court had set aside the charges and now the Rae Bareilli has discharged Advani," Naidu said, adding it is a case "fit for discharge".

The BJP leaders will continue to fight the case legally and "there is nothing to worry about".

BJP leader Uma Bharati, one of those against whom charges will be framed, will continue to be the party's chief ministerial candidate for the assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, he said.

Before the verdict, Naidu had spoken to Vajpayee, who is right now on an overseas tour.
