1 killed as Jan Shatabdi derails in UP

At least one person died and two were injured when six coaches of the Dehra Dun-New Delhi Jan Shatabdi Express derailed near Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday morning.

Earlier, Northern Railway sources had said that three persons were killed in the mishap.

The derailment occured between Deoband and Rohana sections at around 0825 IST.

The train had left Dehradun at 0510 IST, they said.

Rescue and relief operations have begun with teams of doctors reaching the site from Saharanpur and Delhi. An accident relief van and a medical relief train have reached the site.

Traffic movement on the Deoband-Rohana section has been affected.

A Northern Railway spokesman said the dead included a vendor.

Railway Board Chairman R K Singh and General Manager, Northern Railway, R R Jaruhar have left for the accident site.
