Three get jail for plot to kill Kalam

A Prevention of Terrorism Act court in New Delhi has sentenced three Harkat-ul-Jehadi-e-Islami terrorists to 10 years in prison for their role in a plot to assassinate President A P J Abdul Kalam and abduct cricketers Sachin Tendulkar and Sourav Ganguly.
Designated Judge S N Dhingra (who has been transferred as additional district judge) also imposed a fine of Rs 100,000 each on convicts Mohammed Ashraf alias Mohammed Shakeel, Mohammed Amran and Abdul Majid.
The trio had confessed their roles last month.
The Delhi police had chargesheeted them along with six others. They, the police claimed, also wanted to trigger blasts at the Bhaba Atomic Research Centre.
The other accused in the case are Tariq Mohammed, Ashaq Ahmed, Mufti Mohammed Asrar, Arshad Khan, Ghulam Mohammed Dar and Ghulam Qadar Bhatt.
