The Delhi police on Thursday claimed a breakthrough in the Swiss official's rape case.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, South Delhi, Vivek Gogia released photo-identity kits of the two men involved in the crime, created by his department on the basis of descriptions given by the victim.

The crime occurred as the woman left the Siri Fort auditorium at around 10 pm on Tuesday night. As she entered her car in the auditorium's parking lot, two men forced themselves into the Qualis. One man raped her as the other drove the vehicle through South Delhi streets.

"We have recovered a lighter from the spot from which fingerprints have been lifted that are being matched with the databank on criminals," Gogia said.

"We have deputed senior officers as well as (officers) from the crime branch. There are four main teams and 16 sub-teams investigating all the angles," he said.

He said the investigation was moving in a "positive" direction.

Asked if anyone had seen the suspects before they committed the crime, Gogia said, "Some persons had seen them hanging around the place. We are taking their help."    

Neelam Kapur, director, International Film Festival of India, said she did not want an overwhelming police presence at Siri Fort.

But director Amol Palekar said the incident has brought shame to Delhi.

"Only a few days back we had four persons from the President's Bodyguard being arrested for their involvement in a rape. Now we have a woman filmgoer being raped. We have been shouting from the rooftops about Indian culture and how much respect we give to women," he said. "Where has this culture disappeared?"
