AP CM, wife and family to visit Tirupati

October 13, 2003 21:52 IST

Days after surviving a Naxal ambush, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu would on October 16 head for Tirupati to offer prayers at the hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara under tight security cover.

According to official sources, as per the tentative programme, the chief minister, his wife N Bhuvanesvari and his family members would reach Tirupati on October 16. After an overnight stay, they would participate in an hour-long abhisekam (celestial bath) conducted on the presiding deity.

It was while Naidu was on his way to Tirupati on October 1 that Naxals made an attempt on his life, in the bargain exposing the loopholes in his security setup. This time, security personnel are not taking any chances.
