Piqued Rabri chides Laloo

October 11, 2003 23:07 IST

A piqued Rabri Devi, who on Friday offered to resign as Bihar chief minister expressing dismay over the performance of her ministers, reminded her husband and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Laloo Yadav that government, party and family are worlds apart.

What provoked her to chide her husband was the RJD chief's reaction to his wife's offer at the party's national council meeting.

In his typical humorous style, Laloo Yadav said, "If Rabri has offered to resign, I will not divorce her."

"Where does the issue of divorce come? The work of government, party and family are different and it should not be mixed up," Rabri Devi shot back.

"'I am not ready to hold the responsibility... I prefer to quit," Rabri Devi told the concluding day function of the national council of the RJD.

''I am not satisfied with the functioning of our ministers... they are not performing well,'' she said.

But Laloo brushed aside Rabri's offer to resign and asserted that she would continue to hold the post.

"Sometimes she is fed up with work pressure and tells me she wants to relinquish the post," he said.

Yadav called upon his partymen, including ministers, to actively involve themselves in accelerating the pace of development.
