Security forces gunned down one of two militants, who had earlier on Sunday morning attacked a top Jammu and Kashmir IAS officer injuring him and two others. One soldier and a policeman were also killed in the encounter.

The two militants had hijacked an autorickshaw near Pounichat and drove towards Jammu bypass where they ambushed K B Pillai, director general of the Institute of Management and Public Administration.

A bullet hit Pillai on his left upper arm while his personal security officer and the driver were also injured in the attack.

Immediately after the ambush, police and army personnel surrounded the forest where the militants had taken refuge and engaged them in an encounter.

The militants hurled grenades and fired indiscriminately resulting in the death of a soldier and a police constable. Ten others, including six policemen, were injured.

A senior police officer said one militant was gunned down in the afternoon while 'the other militant is still firing at the security forces'.
