Assam theatres will continue screening Hindi films
November 11, 2003 02:37 IST
Film organisations in Assam on Monday decided to carry on screening Hindi films defying a 'ban' by the United Liberation Front of Asom, even as they urged the proscribed outfit to review its decision.
"We will carry on with our usual business as a ban will directly affect the survival of the film industry in the state," a resolution adopted at a meeting organised by the Eastern India Motion Picture Association (EIMPA) in Guwahati said. Artists, technicians, producers, distributors, cinema hall owners and workers attended the meeting.
It was also decided that all organisations associated with the film industry would take strict action against screening of vulgar and obscene movies.
ULFA and eight other militant outfits of the Northeast had announced the 'ban' on August 15 saying Hindi films were a tool of 'cultural invasion'. They said the 'ban' would to be enforced from November 15 to enable those associated with the film industry to find alternative vocations.
