Chargesheet filed against Raja Bhaiya

Uttar Pradesh police on Thursday filed a chargesheet against Prevention of Terrorism Act detenues Raja Bhaiya, an independent UP legislator, his father and an MLC, in a court in Kanpur.
Raja Bhaiya was arrested in November 2003 following a complaint of intimidation filed by a fellow MLA.
The investigating officer submitted a copy of the 100-page chargesheet to the counsel of Raja Bhaiya, his father Udai Pratap Singh and MLC Akshay Pratap Singh who raised objections to it.
The district and sessions Judge and designated POTA court, hearing the case in the Kanpur Central Jail where the legislator is lodged, fixed May 23 for deciding the preliminary objections raised by the defence.
The court heard the cases filed against the accused under POTA, Arms Act and Explosives Act.
Udai Pratap Singh was brought here from Pratapgarh jail and Akshay Pratap Singh from Mirzapur Jail amidst tight security to be produced before the court.
Policemen were deployed in strength around the jail for the hearing. The legislator's father and the MLC were sent back to their respective jails after the hearing.
The defence counsel team was headed by D D Mehta while district government counsel Dhyan Chand was the prosecution counsel.
A team of eight advocates led by Sachin Pratap Singh from Pratapgarh, from where the independent legislator hails, was also present in the court for the hearing.
