India gives Bangladesh new evidence
on terror camps
June 17, 2003 21:12 IST
India on Tuesday submitted to Bangladesh fresh evidence of the presence of nearly 99 terrorist training camps in the northeast and Jammu and Kashmir, according to a senior Border Security Force official.
"These camps are sponsoring terrorism in northeast and have links in J&K," BSF Additional Director General A K Mitra told reporters in Jammu, adding the Centre is awaiting reaction from Dhaka.
Mitra, who is currently on a visit to the Line of Control and monitoring the counter-insurgency operation areas in the valley, said "We have given them (Bangladesh) evidence of terrorist camps on their soil several times in last two years."
The BSF official said these camps are mostly located in forests and mountains opposite Tripura's border with Bangladesh.
He said their J&K links were revealed recently with arrest of a top militant of Kashmir-based Hizbul Mujahideen.
