Hindutva won't be poll plank: Venkaiah Naidu

June 15, 2003 16:01 IST

Although the Bharatiya Janata Party would never give up its Hindutva ideology, it would not use it as a poll plank or deviate from the National Democratic Alliance agenda, the party's national president Venkaiah Naidu said in Ranchi on Sunday.

"The question of the BJP deviating from Hindutva does not arise as it is immortal and the soul of India, but we will never use it as a poll plank," Naidu said while addressing a meeting of party workers.

"We will not disrespect the coalition's agenda," Naidu said exhorting partymen to work for the BJP's speedy progress which, he felt, would help the coalition reach the people at the state and central level.

Urging partymen to reach out to minorities and assure them that the BJP is a party of all the citizens of the country, Naidu said, "We want Muslims, Christians, backward classes, forward classes, everybody to take the country on the path of development under Vajpayee's leadership."

He dismissed criticism about the party not giving party tickets to minorities. "Let them come and see the party from close. All Indians are dear to the BJP," Naidu insisted.
