Ayodhya solution in two-three months: Kanchi seer

June 14, 2003 00:43 IST

The Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt, Swami Jayendra Saraswati, on Friday said a solution to the Ayodhya issue would be reached in two or three months.

But he said the three parties (Hindus, Muslims and the government) should engage in dialogue and discussions without 'outside interference and confusion'.

When his attention was drawn to media reports about the Sufi religious leaders commenting on his solution, the Shankaracharya said the Sufis do not have any sizeable presence in the country.

"Respected peetams (mutts) like Sringeri and others are with me," he added.

The Shankaracharya said he was not involving himself in the talks for the sake of votes or for any personal gain. Even his predecessor, Chandrasekharendra Saraswati, had shown keen interest for an early solution to the issue, he said.
