Bihar abductions: MLA's residence searched

July 27, 2003 15:39 IST

Police on Sunday morning raided the official residence of expelled Samata Party MLA Sunil Pandey and detained ten persons, including Pandey's two brothers, in connection with the abduction of a bank manager and a coal merchant from Bihar's Rohtas district.

"Police raided Pandey's residence on Bailey Road this morning suspecting his involvement in the abductions," Superintendent of Police O N Bhaskar told PTI in Patna.

At present, Pandey is lodged in Beur jail in the state capital in connection with the abduction of a Hajipur-based doctor Gajendra Mohan Sinha last year.

His name also featured in the abduction of Patna's prominent neuro-surgeon Dr Ramesh Chandra, who was released at a village in Patna district in May this year.

A Rohtas report quoting the police said a raid was also conducted at Pandey's ancestral house in Nawadih village in Rohtas district on Saturday night on the suspicion that the abducted persons had been kept there.

However, nobody was found, police said adding only Pandey's mother was present in the house.
