The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday welcomed the Supreme Court observation that a Uniform Civil Code will help national integration.

It hoped all political parties, especially the opposition and the National Democratic Alliance partners, would lend their support in bringing such a law in Parliament.
"A meeting of the NDA would be held soon to discuss this matter," party spokesman Vijay Kumar Malhotra said. "We will try to get support of all parties even though we don't have majority.""
Malhotra said for equality of all communities, there was need for progressive laws. There was need for all communities to come together, he added.
The Congress Party, however, gave a guarded reaction. "The context in which it is said and how it is understood by political parties need to be studied," senior leader Salman Khurshid said.
"It is given in the Constitution, but it is not said that we should enforce it immediately. This is a goal towards which we should move and ensure it whenever possible," she said.
Samajwadi Party leader and MP Shahid Siddiqui said the Supreme Court had no right to interfere in the matter and it was 'inappropriate' on its part to advise the Parliament.
