July 23, 2003 17:32 IST
Six persons, including a woman and an Amarnath pilgrim, were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists in a crowded market area in Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway on Wednesday, official sources said.
The terrorists were trying to target a camp of counter-insurgents in Upper Market. The grenade, however, fell short of the target and exploded on a road injuring six pedestrians.
The injured, the condition of one whom is stated to be serious, were taken to a nearby hospital, police sources said.
One of the injured was identified as Bhushan Bhai, a resident of Mumbai, who was on his way to Jammu after returning from the Amarnath yatra.
The area has been cordoned off, but no arrests have been made so far.
