Sonia summons Rajasthan CM
January 14, 2003 16:47 IST
Keeping in mind the upcoming assembly elections, Congress president Sonia Gandhi seems to be cracking the whip on her non-performing chief ministers.
A day after telling Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh that he would have to make way for someone else, Gandhi on Tuesday called Ashok Gehlot to discuss the political situation in Rajasthan, where discontent is brewing over his leadership.
Gehlot will meet his leader at around 1800 IST.
All India Congress Committee general secretary Ambika Soni told the Press Trust of India that Gandhi has received inputs from 'various sources' on Rajasthan.
Recently, a three-member team comprising Soni, Pranab Mukherjee and P Shiv Shanker had visited Rajasthan in the wake of the party's debacle in the three assembly bye-elections and expressed dissatisfaction over Gehlot's leadership.
The team also had consultations with the Congress leadership in the state.
The three leaders were also part of the AICC's Manifesto Committee, which had reviewed the promises given by the party during the campaign for the bye-elections for the three seats.
The management of the drought by the state government had also come up for review.
