Ghatkopar accused was hired by Lashkar to avenge Gujarat riots
January 12, 2003 19:05 IST
The main accused in the Ghatkopar bomb blast, Imran Rehman Khan, has disclosed that he was summoned by a Lashker-e-Tayiba front organisation in Saudi Arabia to formulate a plan "to avenge the Gujarat killings."
Imran, who was deported to India earlier this week from Saudi Arabia, was recruited in Lashkar ranks sometime in March-April 2002.
On his return to India, he received money for arms and other supplies through hawala channels.
Imran made another trip to Saudi Arabia for fresh instructions and possible targets in the second half of 2002, leaving his group to set off the Ghatkopar blast that left two persons dead and 31 injured.
