NSCN-IM leaders meet Vajpayee

Onkar Singh and Tara Shankar Sahay in New Delhi | January 09, 2003 22:03 IST

Isak Chisi Swu and Thuingaleng Muivah, leaders of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim, on Thursday evening held talks with Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee at his Race Course road residence in New Delhi.

"The PM is very sincere in his efforts and we are now looking forward to meeting Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani," Isak said after the meeting.

He said talks between the NSCN-IM and former prime minister Indira Gandhi could not succeed because at that time the political leadership on both sides was immature.

"But this time political leadership on both sides is mature and the Government of India is making sincere efforts to solve the problem of the Nagaland," Isak said.

He said the core issue is 'to bring peace to Nagaland'.

Asked if the underground outfit is demanding a Greater Nagaland, he said, "Greater or smaller... Nagaland is Nagaland."
