Train derails in Maharashtra

January 03, 2003 06:49 IST

At least 10 people were feared killed and an equal number injured when the Secunderabad-Manmad Express rammed into a goods train near Ghatnandur station in Maharashtra early Friday, railway sources said in Hyderabad.

The train left Hyderabad at 1800 IST. Three bogies -- a general compartment, an AC compartment and a luggage-brake van -- jumped off the tracks as a result of the impact, South Central Railways sources, quoting preliminary reports, told the Press Trust of India.

Two of those dead were Mahesh, AC 3-tier, berth 13, and S G Kamble, Aaj Tak news channel said.

Top SCR officials rushed to the site of the accident, around 370 km from Hyderabad, SCR sources said.
