An AIADMK volunteer on Monday chopped off his right hand little finger and offered it to the presiding deity of a temple in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district for the well-being of party supremo Jayalalithaa on her birthday.
Expressing shock over the action of Gnasekaran, who made the sacrifice at the Lord Ayappan temple in Ayanur village, Jayalalithaa arranged for him to be brought to Chennai for treatment, an official release said on Monday night.
Gnasekaran has been admitted to the Apollo hospital where he would undergo plastic surgery for restoration of the
finger and the AIADMK would bear the medical expenses, it said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa turned 55 on Monday.
Last year, an AIADMK worker from Mayiladuthurai town had chopped of his tongue to fulfil a vow taken by him for the success of Jayalalithaa in the Andipatti byelection. Then also the party undertook his medical expenses.
