NCP legislator's car attacked

February 23, 2003 04:34 IST

Nationalist Congress Party spokesman and legislator Gurunath Kulkarni's car was attacked, allegedly by Shiv Sena activists, when he was leaving the Konkan Kala Mahotsav at Kankavli in Sindhudurg district.

Kankavli is the home-town of Leader of the Opposition Narayan Rane, a senior Shiv Sena leader. Rane and some other legislators of the Bharatiya Janata Party-Sena combine were also present at the festival.

The state police control said Kulkarni's car windows were shattered and a couple of his police bodyguards were injured in the stone throwing.

But there was no further incident and the situation is under control.

Kankavli had been in the news a few months ago when suspected NCP workers ransacked Rane's house after the murder of an NCP worker in the town.
