Russian President Vladimir Putin has conveyed to President Pervez Musharraf that Pakistan must halt cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir and dismantle terrorist infrastructure in the territory controlled by it.
"We are fully satisfied with the position and attitude of Russia, which we have reasons to believe remains unchanged vis-à-vis India and Pakistan," External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha said after an hour-long meeting with Putin in Moscow on Wednesday.
"We have reasons to believe that Musharraf was strongly told to desist from cross-border terrorism against India," Sinha said.
The minister also conveyed Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's gratitude to Putin for making two phone calls before and after his meetings with Musharraf in Moscow.
Putin expressed satisfaction at the pace at which the Kodamkolam Atomic Power Plant project was moving ahead.
There was an in-depth discussion on the situation in Afghanistan. Both sides had a convergence of views and showed concern at the possibility of recurrence of violence in the Pashtun belt and the regrouping of the Al Qaeda and Taliban.
Sinha arrived in Moscow on Wednesday morning on a two-day visit at the invitation of Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov. Vajpayee will visit Russia in May to attend the 300th anniversary of St Petersburg.
