The former director-general of the Karnataka police, C Dinakar, on Friday told a Chennai court that he was prepared to prove his allegation that a large sum of money was paid to Veerappan for obtaining the release of Kannada matinee icon Rajakumar three years ago.

Judicial Magistrate Sambasivam in the Egmore Court complex was hearing a defamation suit filed by the editor of Nakkeeran magazine, Gopal, against Dinakar.

He had alleged that in his book Veerappan's Prize Catch: Rajkumar, Dinakar had defamed him.

After the hearing, Dinakar said he knew the law and what he had said in the book was true.

The Madras high court, meanwhile, dismissed a petition filed by Gopal seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the two cases filed against him by the Tamil Nadu police.

In his petition, Gopal had submitted that the police was fabricating evidence to implicate him.
