Ever since All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani was admitted to the Tata Memorial Hospital in Mumbai, police have begun screening every visitor entering the premises.

The police posse easily outnumber the hospital security personnel.

Geelani is believed to be suffering from a kidney ailment. Hospital authorities are tight lipped about the exact nature of his illness.

Geelani was being held under the Prevention of Terrorism Act at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, Bihar and was believed to be ailing for some time.

He had recently undergone various medical tests at the Apollo Hospital in Ranchi after which it was suggested that he undergo specialised treatment.

A medical board constituted by the Jharkhand government to search for a suitable hospital threw up three choices, one of which was the Tata Memorial Hospital.

"We are examining him and will come out with a statement by Friday," a senior hospital official said.

According to sources, all information regarding Geelani's health is to be cleared by the Centre.

"We have been told not to comment on this issue," said a senior inspector supervising the security arrangements.
