The Bombay high court on Thursday granted bail to film producer Nasim Rizvi, who was recently sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment by a MCOCA court in the case of alleged nexus of Bollywood with underworld.

Justice B H Marlpalle granted the bail to Rizvi's appeal against his conviction, who also admitted his petition challenging the special court's verdict.

Nazim Rizvi is the producer of Salman Khan starrer Chori Chori Chupke Chupke, which allegedly was funded by underworld money.

The judge granted liberty to Rizvi on the ground of parity as co-accused Abdul Rehman Allah Baksh was also given bail. Rizvi has been asked to submit a surety of Rs 50,000. He has also been asked to appear before the crime branch every 15 days, not to leave Mumbai and surrender his passport.

A special court in Mumbai had convicted both Rizvi and Abdul Rehman along with Bharat Shah on October 1. They were sentenced to six years rigorous imprisonment and asked to pay a fine of Rs 100,000.

Shah was sentenced to one year rigorous imprisonment, but was let off the hook as he had already served the jail term.

The prosecution had alleged in the trial court that the trio had conspired with Pakistan-based gangster Chhota Shakeel to target film personalities for financial gains.

Defence lawyer Majeed Memon appeared for Rizvi, while prosecutor Rohini Salian represented the state.
