Congress may join SP-led government in UP

August 28, 2003 18:12 IST

The Congress today on Thursday hinted that it was likely to join the Samajwadi Party-led coalition government in Uttar Pradesh.

"As far as the question of Congress joining the government is concerned, it is for the chief minister to invite our party," Congress Legislature Party Leader Pramod Tiwari said in Lucknow.

"When you become a participant, there must be a common agenda, some objective. All that has not yet happened and neither has there been any talk about it," senior party leader Kamal Nath said.

Asked if there was possibility of a split in the 16-member legislature party if the Congress decides not to join the government, Nath said, "I don't think so. Our MLAs are not hankering for posts."
