Chief Vigilance Commissioner P Shankar's office has sent a note to Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi explaining the investigation process of the defence deals after the speaker demanded it in writing, a CVC source told rediff.com

Last week, the Public Accounts Committee had expressed its 'inability' to give its findings on irregularities in arms purchases for Kargil operations due to, what it termed, 'refusal' by the defence ministry in providing the CVC report on the matter.

But, according to the source, the CVC report does not cover the purchases of coffins during the Kargil crisis.

On Wednesday, Joshi met Defence Minister George Fernandes and Congress Member of Parliament and chairman of the PAC Buta Singh, and Shivraj Patil, former speaker, separately to understand their viewpoints.

Joshi is expected to give his suo moto ruling on the matter on Thursday in the Parliament.

The Lok Sabha, meanwhile, was adjourned amid pandemonium because the government stuck to its stand of denying access to the CVC report on defence purchases to the PAC.

Angry opposition members demanded Defence Minister George Fernandes's resignation.
