Two persons were killed and 21injured, seven seriously, in a fire that occurred due to a 'blast' in a hutment in Ektanagar locality of Danilimda on Sunday, official sources said.

One of the deceased was brought dead at the L G Hospital and other was declared dead on arrival at the V S hospital.

The condition of seven injured was reported to be serious, the sources told PTI.

Fire officials have controlled the blaze that occurred due to a 'blast' and several huts were totally gutted in the blaze, they said.

Senior inspector of Danilimda police J J Patel told PTI: "The fire does not appear to be one that was caused by a gas cylinder blast but rather that of a crude device explosion that could have been lying among a heap of garbage nearby."

He said officials were still investigating the real cause of the fire and that forensic officials would also investigate.

The two persons killed in the fire were identified as Ravjibhai and Lakshmanbhai Shankarbhai.

Resident Medical Officer (RMO) at V S hospital said that 16 patients had received treatment in their hospital out of which five had sustained burn injuries.

Dharmil Shah, RMO of the LG hospital said around six persons were brought to the hospital out of which one died and a woman, Leelaben, received severe burn injuries.

Police sources said it appeared as if some of persons in the hutment were making crackers, since wicks and some explosive material was found from the blast site.
