Pak army expresses confidence in Musharraf's leadership

August 08, 2003 17:21 IST

Expressing confidence in the leadership of Pervez Musharraf, the top brass of the Pakistani army has endorsed the President's view that no timeframe could be imposed upon him to relinquish the post of army chief.

At a meeting of corps commanders on Wednesday, they decided not to accept any 'dictation' on Musharraf giving up his military uniform.

Musharraf, who chaired the meeting, said the decision on his relinquishing the post of army chief should be left to him.

He said due to various internal and international compulsions he needed to be the head of the state and chief of the army staff at least in the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, daily Dawn quoted sources as saying that no immediate breakthrough was likely in the government-opposition talks to resolve the tangle over the Legal Framework Order.
