J&K cop killed in militant
attack on police post

April 17, 2003 09:47 IST

In the fifth attack on a police post in a month, a constable was killed and another injured when militants opened indiscriminate fire on the Ind post in Udhampur district of Jammu division early on Thursday, official sources said.

Militants fired with automatic weapons on the post in Gool tehsil, killing constable Bilal Ahmed and seriously wounding another policemen, the sources said adding the ultras fled when the security personnel retaliated.

Militants have been attacking the post ever since security forces gunned down a Hizbul Mujahideen 'divisional commander' Amanullah Pir in March.

Earlier, in a major militant strike on the post on March 16, 12 people, including nine security personnel, were killed.

Meanwhile, even as the valley geared up for Vajpayee's two-day visit beginning on Friday, militants ambushed two army vehicles in Baramullah district in north Kashmir on Wednesday night, injuring eight jawans, the sources said.
