Four women die in Mumbai fire

Syed Firdaus Ashraf in Mumbai | April 10, 2003 09:42 IST

Four women died in a fire at their home in the Sher-e-Punjab colony in Andheri (East), northwestern Mumbai.

The fire began at about 4.50 am on Thursday, killing Kawaljeet Kaur, Meeti Kaur, Namia Kaur and Amalwal Kaur who were sleeping in the flat.

The police say the fire may have been caused either by a short circuit or because of  inflammable material kept in the flat.

Fire brigade officials say they rushed to the site in 20 minutes, but it was too late to save the family.
