Militants have abducted two senior officials of the Meghalaya government on Tuesday
The militants are suspected to be members of the Achik National Volunteers Council in South Garo Hills district of Meghalaya, Director General of Police L Sailo said.
Police sources said an Executive Engineer of State Public Works Department Jatrindra Bhattacharjee and Deputy Inspector of Schools P K Hajong were abducted on Tuesday evening from their residences in Baghmara town, the district headquarters of South Garo Hills, bordering Bangladesh.
Meanwhile, state Home Minister Robert G Lyngdoh said he would assess the security situation in the state on Monday.
"Only after a review, a decision on the deployment of Assam Rifles or the BSF in the area would be considered," he said, adding there was no communication from the abductors for any ransom.
The abduction comes immediately after the release of Central Customs Inspector Deepak Mahanta and three coal exporters' on March 30 after a month-long captivity.
They were kidnapped on February 28 by suspected militants from People's Liberation Front (M) and National Democratic Front of Bodoland from the same district.
