Govt to impound R K Sharma's passport

The Union government has issued orders for impounding the passport of Ravi Kant Sharma, prime accused in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, even as the Delhi police initiated the process to get him declared a proclaimed offender.

The Regional Passport Office in Delhi has already issued directives for impounding Sharma's passport, official sources said on Thursday.

The Ministry of External Affairs had on September nine received a letter from the deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways) for impounding Sharma's passport.

The same day, MEA wrote to the RPO, which issued the orders the next day, the sources said.

Delhi Police Commissioner R S Gupta had earlier said it will not take long for the police to nab Sharma.

Gupta said the process of attaching his property had begun after a Delhi court gave an order to this effect, besides allowing the police to initiate measures to declare him a proclaimed offender.
